Outings and Walks

Maple Ridge Park
North on 232nd Street. Follow the signs.

At the entrance to the Golden Ears Provincial Park. The South Allouette River borders this great family park, an expansive greenspace with lots of things for the kids including a large spray park and play equipment. A huge field for the older kids and horseshoe pitch. There are picnic tables scattered throug out the park amoung the many shade trees.

Parking is available in 2 parking lots and some street parking. There are covered BBQ areas close to the river and field.

The spray park is seasonal so check with Parks and Rec for openings.


Ruskin Dam
Hayward Lake Recreation Areas
Lougheed Hwy to 287th Street, turn left
and follow the signs

This area is beautiful, there are 3 main areas that are maintained by BC Hydro. The dams and reservoirs are fully functional and provide electricity to the local power grids. Parking at the recreation areas is at a first come first serve basis.

Included in this area is the Stave Lake Reservoir, the Hayward Lake Reservoir and the Stave River - Ruskin Picnic Site. These areas have Picnicking, fishing, beach access, washroom facilities and drinking water.

ThepPower house at Stave Falls also has a Visitor center that provides tours. The power house was build in 1912 and is still used to supply electricity.

BC Hydro has a Website that details all the area has to offer in recreation and touches on the history of the area. Fun, fresh air and the educational experience..... this sounds like a good outing!


The Malcolm Knapp Research Forest
Located at the end of Silver Valley Road
Dewdney Trunk Road. to 232 Street. North to
Silver Valley Road.

The Park is open to the public during specific hours, there are open green spaces, picnic tables and portable washrooms. The primary draw to this park is wildlife hiking. There are 4 public trails that vary in length from 45 minutes to 3 hours to complete the hike. All trails are well marked and begin and end at the park gate. This park has an interesting history and is managed by the University of British Columbia as a research forest.


Allco Park
Dewdney Trunk Road to 248th Street.
North on 248th Street. Follow the signs

At the end of 248th St. there is a parking area, from the parking lot you walk down an access road to the park. The park is situated on over 10 hectares with the Allouette river running through it.

There is access to the river with walking and equestrian trails alongside it. Salmon spawn in this river and you can also see the occasional cray fish. You will find green space here, benches, picnic tables and a covered picnic area. Fresh water and portable washrooms are onsite.


Kanaka Creek Regional Park
252nd Street off Dewdney Trunk Road.

This park is wheelchair accessible with both pedestrian and equestrian trails. There are washrooms, picnic tables and BBQ areas. Parking is onsite and the trails are well marked. The highlight of the 12km trail is the magnificent undisturbed creek. Cliff Falls has carved out a Canyon with its turbulent waters that make an excellent spot for picnics or just relaxing.

There are natural pools that have been formed but the water is quite cool. The park is over 400 hectares in size and the trails are well kept. Wooden bridges allow you to view and cross the creek at various points. A popular destination while walking the trail is the Bell-Irving Fish Hatchery. Tours of the hatchery are available daily, call 604-462-8643 for times.


Whonnock Lake
East on Dewdney Trunk Road to 272nd Street.
South on 272nd Street to 112th Street. Follow the signs.

Whonnock Lake makes for a great day trip, The lake has a beach area and dock, there is a very good sized green area with picnic tables and shaded areas throughout. Most picnic tables have a BBQ stand. The concession stand is seasonal and has a varied menu. The lake is stocked yearly with Rainbow Trout so bring your canoe or rent one onsite.

Whonnock Lake is wheel chair accessible. There are washrooms, drinking water, covered BBQ areas, play equipment and hiking. It is possible to drive close to the beach area and unload your vehicle and then park.


There are many other daytrips available that are in our general area, these are but a few. We will be adding more from time to time and any suggestions are welcome.
